The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, Veterinary, and other medical/paramedical courses in India. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the sole entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in India. The exam is conducted annually. NEET 2021 Eligibility Criteria has been set by the NTA, and all the aspiring test takers are expected to fulfill the criteria. Otherwise, they will be subjected to rejection. NEET 2021 exam is conducted online, in 13 different languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and Punjabi. A NEET aspirant must attempt to answer 180 questions in 3 hours. The exam paper is divided into three different sections, which are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Given below are the highlights of the exam.

Educational Qualification

CODE 01:- A candidate who is appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 12th Standard in 2020, whose result is awaited, may apply and appear in the test but he/she shall not be eligible for admission to the Undergraduate Medical Courses if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage at the time of first round of Counselling.

CODE 02:- The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.

CODE 03:- The Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Biotechnology (which shall include practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject.

COD 04:- The Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination. The Preprofessional/Pre-medical examination shall include practical tests in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.

CODE 05:- The first year of the three years degree course of a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in these subjects provided the examination is a University Examination and candidate has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology with English at a level not less than a core course.

CODE 06:- B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Biotechnology and further that he/ she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

CODE 07:- Any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 02 years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Biotechnology; which shall include practical test in these subjects) is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.

Age Limit

For all candidates -

Lower Age-17 yrs

Upper Age-there is no upper age limit.

He/she has completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31 December of the year of his/her admission to the first year Undergraduate Medical Courses.

Upper age limit: As per Letter No. U-11022/2/2022-UGMEB, dated 09 March 2022 received from National Medical Commission (NMC), Under Graduate Medical Education Board(UGMEB) regarding the upper age limit, there is no upper age limit.

Scheme of Examinations

Important Note:-

I. The total number of Questions and Total Number of Marks are 180 and 720 respectively.

II. The duration of the Examination is 180 minutes or 03 hours.

III. For each correct answer, the candidate will get 04 (four) marks.

IV. For each incorrect answer, 01(one) mark will be deducted.

V. According to the new update section B has been removed from the NEET question paper , so there will be a total of 180 questions in the exam, and all of them will be from section A, which comprises all the 45 questions (Each subject).

Mode of Exam

Candidates are hereby informed that NEET (UG) – 2025 will be Single day

single exam in PEN and PAPER mode as was conducted in last year 2024. (Vide D.O. No. NMC/Secy (2025)/01).

Qualifying Criteria:

The National Testing Agency will prepare an All India Merit List of successful candidates of NEET (UG) on the basis of the eligibility criteria provided by the Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India as given in Graduate Medical Education Regulations-1997 issued under Indian Medical Council Act1956 and BDS Course Regulations, 2007 issued under the Dentists Act, 1948, and other relevant and applicable Acts, as amended from time to time.

In order to be eligible for admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses for a particular academic year in case of General, General-EWS, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain minimum of marks at 50th percentile in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test to Undergraduate Medical Courses held for the said academic year. However, in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks shall be at the 40th percentile. In respect of candidates with Benchmark, Disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks shall be at 45th percentile for Unreserved Category & GEN-EWS Category candidates and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates. The percentile shall be determined on the basis of the highest marks secured in the All India common merit list in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses.

The inter-se-merit of candidates for tie-breaking:

- In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks/percentile score in the NEET (UG), the inter-se-merit shall be determined as follows:

- Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,

- Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,

- Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by,

- Candidate older in age.
